Here at Boundless we spend a lot of time offering biblical advice on how to live well as single young adults. We often turn to God’s Word as a source of wisdom and inspiration. I recently compiled this list of the verses I’ve found particularly comforting, instructive and challenging as a single man.
Read through the list and consider sharing verses you’d add in the comments below.
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1, ESV).
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD” (Proverbs 18:22).
“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord” (Psalm 128:1-4).
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7).
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!” (Psalm 34:1-3).
“’The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him’” (Lamentations 3:24).
“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold” (Proverbs 22:1).
“Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him'” (Genesis 2:18).
These 14 passages have each been important to me during my years of singleness. In the title of this blog, I’ve suggested these verses are worth memorizing. I’ve found memorized verses root themselves deeper into my heart. They’re much more likely to find their way into my thoughts, conversations and prayers. I memorize so I can remind myself of these truths often.
