Keeping Up Appearances: Episode 172
May 12, 2011
Thoughts on attracting the opposite sex, plus an interview with two-time Grammy nominee Mandisa and a question about low self-esteem.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
When it comes to attraction, you have physical preferences in the opposite sex. You also have insecurities about what you feel are your own shortcomings. Listen in as our panel puts our own hearts and hangups on the line in talking about attraction. Weight, braces, acne, height — it's all here. Examine your own attitudes and discover if they're hindering you from being open to a great match — or being a great match yourself.
Mandisa Gets Real
I love me some Mandisa! Ever since she climbed to the top 10 on American Idol five years ago, I've been a fan. Her album True Beauty is on my running playlist. Now she's back with What If We Were Real, a celebration of her recent journey that includes everything from an over 115-pound weight loss to a new musical sound. She and I get real as we talk about body image, praying for a great guy and maturing through life's ups and downs. Oh, and I shamelessly audition for her as a backup rapper. I had to strike while the iron was hot, folks. I'll be touring with her soon, I'm sure.
I Want You to Want Me
She and her boyfriend have a great relationship, but there's one thing she can't get over. Her bf told her that when they first met, he wasn't attracted to her. She's struggled with self-esteem her whole life, so even though her guy is in love with her now, she's having a hard time trusting his attachment to her. What can she do to get past her fear that she doesn't measure up? Counselor Sandy Janzen offers some great help for this discouraged listener.
