This Ain’t Your Parents’ Dating Scene: Episode 230
Dating, Then and Now
There’s a lot to be learned from how dating has evolved over the centuries. And much of it can be examined from our frustrations with how it plays out today. Skip Burzumato lives and breathes this scene. After years as a college and young adult pastor, Skip now teaches at the University of Virginia and is assistant director of the National Marriage Project.
In Sickness and in Health
Guests: Larissa Murphy,
Ian and Larissa Murphy met in college, dated and planned to marry. But then Ian was in an accident, sustained a severe brain injury, and Larissa was told he’d either not recover or be low-functioning the rest of his life. After time, much prayer and seeing some progress in Ian’s ability to communicate, Larissa chose to marry Ian. In our interview, she talks about how she chose marriage “sadly,” how God’s given her a bigger picture for marriage’s design, and what it’s like to be spiritually led by a man who is himself helpless in so many ways.
Like a Virgin
Guests: Candice Watters,
A 31-year-old virgin wants to know if it’s pointless or possible to hope that the person she marries will also be a virgin. Is the expectation a wrong one? How can she deal with feelings of disappointment at the prospect of not sharing that story with her future spouse? Candice offers some helpful and encouraging advice.
